Kyojuro Rengoku is one of the main characters in the Manga series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba and its 2019 anime television adaptation. He also appears as the deuteragonist in the 2020 anime film Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: The Movie – Mugen Train which adapts the Demon Train arc from the manga.
With conviction instilled from a young age by his dying mother, Kyojuro joined the Corps to protect innocents from Demons and eventually died during the battle against Akaza – The Upper-Rank Three in The Twelve Kizuki (Demon).

Kyojuro was an adult man of large stature with a muscular-athletic physique. His hair, long yellow with red streaks that resembled flames, two shoulder-length haircuts, two chin-length bangs to the sides of his head, black eyebrows that were forked, golden eyes that faded to red with white pupils–all were known for being charismatic; always sporting a bright smile across his face.
Kyojuro was highly motivated in his role as an Hashira and often displayed a quirky sense of humor. He had an infectious charm and generosity which often resulted in people smiling when they encountered him.
Kyojuro displayed remarkable skill with the sword due to meticulous training and practice, showing true dedication and discipline in every move he made. Kyojuro was passionate about his role as a Hashira and often appeared to be friendly and eccentric.

As a Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, Kyojuro was an adept and formidable combatant. Even before taking his father’s place, Kyojuro had already proven his mettle as a formidable warrior; bringing back nine deceased Demon Slayers by himself and defeating rank two Hairo on his own before passing away.
Furthermore, Shinjuro Rengoku said that after giving up instructing Kyojuro about flame breathing techniques his book contained three volumes.
Another testament to his talents, Akaza Kyojuro – the top rank three and one of the strongest demons known – praised Rengoku for his abilities and was amazed to see such a warrior in the Human Race.
He even have him a chance to transform into a demon so that he could surpass human limitations and gain strength beyond that which swordsmen were capable of attaining.
Akaza was also praised for his fighting spirit, with some even suggesting he may be close to reaching the “Realm of the Highest,” meaning the Transparent World or Selfless State.

Kyojuro was one of the most skilled and powerful swordsmen in all of the Demon Slayer Corps. Furthermore, being part of the Rengoku family with their impressive history of swordsmen as well as being associated with Flame Hashira gives Kyojuro an advantage in learning and perfecting his swordsmanship skills, which were demonstrated on numerous occasions throughout the series.
Kyojuro demonstrated his skill with the sword against Hairo, of rank two; using bushido (demon sword style), to defeat it before being slain.
Additionally, Kyojuro’s adept blade work allowed him to slow Enmu’s merger process while explaining his strategy to Tanjiro and Inosuke alike.
Finally, in battles against Akaza, where Kyojuro demonstrated equal competency against those higher ranks who had killed many Demon Slayers and Hashira like him in recent centuries – to the point that Akaza would praise Kyojuro’s swordplay.
Flame Breathing
A Breathing Technique that Kyojuro was taught by Shinjuro Rengoku, the previous Flame Hashira, and subsequently learned by studying the manuals that they left behind in the Rengoku Family.
Kyojuro, the Flame Hashira, is the most accomplished Flame Breathing practitioner of his generation. He clearly developed fighting skills with this Breathing Technique because he was able to hold onto his own against an Upper-Rank Three, Akaza, and former Lower Rank Two, Hairo, all by himself.
This allowed Rengoku to increase oxygen levels in his blood by controlling his breathing patterns which enhanced his speed and strength to match an undead’s.
Kyojuro could maintain Total Concentration breathing throughout the day, further improving his strength, speed, endurance, and focus around particular areas which helped stop bleeding caused by injuries.
There are nine styles that can be employed with Breath of Flames but Rengoku only demonstrated five.

The Unwavering Sense Of Justice (Kyojuro Rengoku)
Kyojuro developed an exceptional sense of justice thanks to his mother’s guidance when he was a child, which would later manifest in his fights against enemies in the Mugen Train arc. Always placing civilian safety before combatting enemies was Kyojuro’s approach throughout that arc.
Kyojuro never bought into the notion that all demons are evil and should be destroyed. Instead, he evaluated people based on their deeds – which is why Kyojuro admires Nezuko so much for her selfless acts of helping others.
At this point, Kyojuro made the decision to dedicate himself fully to becoming the Hashira. Though there was no screen time in the first series, his omnipresence left such an imprint on viewers that it only made sense that he was one of the Demon Slayer’s most formidable swordsmen.
